How to Turn Energy Into Output and Influence Without Burning Out (Part 2)

How to Turn Energy Into Output and Influence Without Burning Out (Part 2)

By Dr. Howard Dennis, Certified High Performance Coach

This is Part 2 of a two-part series. If you haven't read [Part 1: Why Energy Is the Real Currency of High Performance →](INSERT BLOG 4 LINK), start there — this article builds directly on it.

In Part 1, I made the case that energy — not time — is the real currency of high performance, and that energy isn't a single tank but three: physical, mental, and emotional. We focused on stabilizing the physical foundation, because everything else compounds from there.

Now we get to the part most high-achievers actually want to talk about.

You've got the energy. So what do you do with it?

This is where most people get it wrong. They build their physical tank back up after a season of burnout, feel good for the first time in months, and immediately pour all that recovered energy back into the same overcommitted, scattered, low-leverage activity that depleted them i...

Why Energy Is the Real Currency of High Performance (Part 1)

By Dr. Howard Dennis, Certified High Performance Coach

I'm going to tell you something most productivity articles won't.

Time management isn't your problem.

I've spent over two decades treating high-achievers in my chiropractic practice — entrepreneurs, executives, surgeons, pastors, parents juggling three roles at once — and I can tell you almost none of them are short on time. They're short on energy. They have plenty of hours in the day. They just don't have the physical, mental, or emotional capacity to use those hours well.

That's a different problem entirely. And it requires a different solution.

If you've ever had a wide-open Saturday afternoon and somehow ended it feeling like you got nothing meaningful done — if you've ever had a calendar full of "free time" that produced nothing because you were too depleted to use it — you already know this. Time isn't the bottleneck. Energy is.

Why You Start Strong and Fade — And the System That Keeps You Consistent

Why You Start Strong and Fade — And the System That Keeps You Consistent

By Dr. Howard Dennis, Certified High Performance Coach

Here's the honest truth about most high-achievers I work with: starting isn't the problem.

You can start. You've started a hundred times. New goals in January, new habits in March, new business ideas in June, new health routines every Monday morning. You don't lack ambition. You don't lack ideas. You don't lack the capacity to begin.

What you lack is the structure to finish.

If you've ever set a 90-day goal and watched it quietly disappear by week four — if you've ever started a habit on Monday and abandoned it by Friday — if you've ever told yourself "this time I'll really commit" and then watched the same fade pattern repeat itself — this article is for you.

Because the fade isn't a character flaw. It's a predictable result of running on motivation in a life that requires structure. And once you understand that, you can fix it.

The Real Reason High-Ac...

Why High-Achievers Burn Out — And the One Reset That Actually Works

Why High-Achievers Burn Out — And the One Reset That Actually Works

By Dr. Howard Dennis, Certified High Performance Coach

The most exhausted people I see in my chiropractic practice aren't the lazy ones.

They're the high-achievers. The ones running businesses, raising families, leading teams, serving in their churches, showing up for everyone — and quietly running on fumes. They sit on the adjustment table and tell me their back hurts, but what they really mean is everything hurts. The body, the mind, the spirit, the marriage, the patience that used to come easy.

I know because I've been there.

Burnout doesn't happen to people who don't care. It happens to people who care a lot, for a long time, without the structure to sustain it. And here's the part most articles get wrong: burnout isn't a willpower problem. It isn't a time-management problem. It isn't even an "I need a vacation" problem.

It's a system problem. And it requires a system reset.

After becoming a Certified High P...

The 5 Moves That Separate People Who Finish the Quarter From People Who Don't

The 5 Moves That Separate People Who Finish the Quarter From People Who Don't

By Dr. Howard Dennis, Certified High Performance Coach

Most people don't fail because they lack ideas. They fail because they start strong in January, fade by March, and tell themselves "next quarter" until the year's gone.

I've watched this pattern in my chiropractic practice for over two decades. Patients come in carrying physical stress that's really just unprocessed mental and emotional load — the byproduct of starting things and not finishing them, of working hard without the structure to make it count. The body keeps the score. So does the bank account. So does the marriage. So does the calling on your life.

After becoming a Certified High Performance Coach trained in Brendon Burchard's CHPC methodology, I started seeing the same five moves show up again and again in the people who actually pull it off — who set a 90-day target in January and are still executing in April. They're not smarter. They'r...

Uncategorized Apr 01, 2026

Hello, Dr. Howard Dennis here, your certified High Performance Coach.

Today we're going to talk about Declaration Session #3: Sustained Motivation .

We know from past sessions that I've talked about having your three words —those three words that describe your best self. What are your three words that are part of your identity and make up your best self?

We want to live into those words.

And we want to talk about motivation and creating necessity in our life.

Here's the truth: Motivation is like a muscle. The more we work at it, the stronger we get.

Six Questions About Sustained Motivation

We're going to go over about six questions today. Pull out your journal and answer these questions.

The whole point of this is to identify what would make you feel even more motivated . And we want you to get bold and tactical about your big goals in life.

Remember: High performance is about performing above the norms consistently, day in and day ...

Hello, Dr. Howard Dennis here, your certified High Performance coach.

Today we're going to talk about Declaration Session #2: Beyond Fear .

We've been talking about many things in certified high performance coaching. This is the third of four series of lessons and coaching that I do throughout a whole year.

And here's the truth: We all have our own fears that can hold us down—fears that we have to face.

Today's session is about five questions. We're going to take about five to seven minutes. Pull out your journal.

This is to help you see what the ideal future would look like for yourself. And my goal for you is to face and better manage your fears about pursuing your goals as boldly as you're capable of doing.

High Performance Is About Being Proactive

This is all about being proactive. High performance coaching is about having meaningful discussions about:

  • Your health
  • Your relationships
  • Your career

And consistently going above norms wh...

Uncategorized Mar 18, 2026

Hello, Dr. Howard Dennis here, your certified High Performance coach.

Today we're going to talk about Declaration Session #1 . We've been going through my certified high performance coaching material, and we're now in the Declaration Sessions.

James Clear sent me a quote from William Shakespeare the other day that really stuck with me:

"Our doubts are traitors and make us lose the good we oft might win by fearing to attempt."

So today is all about freedom —thinking about it in a unique way, in a forward way, in a proactive way.

This is going to take about seven minutes. We're going to go over seven to eight questions. Pull out your journal and let's do some work on ourselves.

Our Goals Today

  1. Identify what makes you feel more free and happy in the present moment
  2. Begin shaping an even more ideal future for you
  3. Help you achieve a sense of freedom

Seven Questions About Personal Freedom

1. When you hear the phrase "personal freedom,"

Charge Session #12: CELEBRATION & The 10 Human Drives - Wrapping Up Your Journey

Uncategorized Mar 11, 2026

Hello, Dr. Howard Dennis here, your certified High Performance coach.

We're talking about the Charge Sessions today, and this is our final session —number 12, titled CELEBRATION .

The other day, I had forgotten that yesterday, February 16th, was my 30th anniversary of graduating from Palmer College of Chiropractic.

And that reminded me of something crucial: It is very important to pause, take inventory, and celebrate your wins.

Because our wins are interwoven into our fibers. They become us.

Wrapping Up the 10 Human Drives

Today we're going to wrap up these Charge Sessions—these 10 human drives that help us spark and charge ourselves going forward.

I'm not going to read each definition again, but I want you to pull out your journal and let's get busy being proactive in our lives.

I've said this many times: High performance is about maintaining positive relationships and our health while consistently exceeding norms in every part of our life.

And to d...

Charge Session #11: CONSCIOUSNESS - The Power of Being Present

Uncategorized Mar 05, 2026

Hello, Dr. Howard Dennis here, your certified High Performance coach.

Today I was thinking about one of my business partners for 10 years, Dr. Charlie Ward. We practiced the Gonstead method of chiropractic together, and he was like a master in that technique.

But one thing that really stood out about Charlie was this: He made you feel like you were with him for 20 or 30 minutes when he only spent 5 minutes with you.

And that's because he was so present and focused in the moment .

That leads me into today's session: Charge Session #11: CONSCIOUSNESS .

I'll walk you through eight or nine questions, and I want you to pull out your journal and take some notes as you follow along.

Our Goals Today

  1. Discover how you engage your drive for consciousness
  2. Learn how to direct that drive in the most useful ways

Rate Yourself on Consciousness

I'm going to read a statement about consciousness, and I want you to rate yourself on a scale of 1-10 based on how muc...
