When I was in chiropractic school, I made a decision that changed the trajectory of my entire life. I joined an adjusting club called Gonstead Club.
It was uncomfortable. I had to meet new people, work on my craft in front of others, and push myself beyond my comfort zone. But that single decision to connect opened doors I never could have imagined.
That club led me to develop the skills I needed for my preceptorship. It led me to meet my mentor, Dr. Ward, who traveled the country teaching the Gonstead method. And ultimately, it led me to become his partner and buy into an existing practice.
I wouldn't be here today if I hadn't prioritized connection.
That's the power we're exploring today in Charge Session #6: CONNECTION .
Let me ask you to reflect on this statement and rate yourself from 1-10 (with 10 being "completely agree"):
"I feel deeply connected to the people in my life. Overall, I have healthy relationships. I focus on improving my relationships and I feel lucky and happy to have great people in my personal and professional life."
What number came up for you?
More importantly: How could you move yourself up just one notch?
Remember, high performance isn't just about exceeding standard norms consistently—it's also about maintaining positive relationships and positive health. It's a holistic approach to living your best life.
Now let's go deeper. I want you to grab your journal and write out what defines happy and connected relationships in these five key areas of your life:
What does a deeply connected family relationship look like for you? How does it feel?
What defines a truly supportive, energizing friendship in your life?
What would your ideal relationship with your partner or loved one look like?
What does a positive, productive professional relationship feel like?
How do you define meaningful spiritual connections?
For each category, write out in detail:
After you've defined what ideal relationships look like in each area, ask yourself this crucial question:
What would it take to deepen each of these relationships?
What specific actions could you take? What conversations need to happen? What habits would you need to develop?
Write it all out. Be specific. Be honest.
Now I want you to think about the energy around you most of the time.
Is it high energy? Vibrant? Engaged? Or is it something less?
Here's the critical question: Who could you spend more time with that raises your energy level?
Who are the positive influences in your life? Who are the high performers? Who are the people who support you, challenge you, and bring out your best?
How could you spend MORE time with those people?
This isn't about abandoning anyone—it's about being intentional with your time and energy. It's about recognizing that the people you surround yourself with have a massive impact on who you become.
Looking back, joining that Gonstead Club was uncomfortable for me. Stepping into that room full of ambitious students, working on my adjusting skills in front of others, pushing myself to connect—it all felt risky.
But it was worth it.
That uncomfortable step led to mentorship, partnership, and ultimately the career and life I have today.
What uncomfortable step do you need to take to deepen your connections?
Maybe it's:
Whatever it is, I promise you: the doors that open on the other side of that discomfort are worth it.
Connection isn't something that just happens—it's something you build intentionally through consistent effort and genuine care.
By doing this work, by being proactive about your relationships, you open doors for your future that you can't even see yet.
