Hello, Dr. Howard Dennis here, your certified High Performance coach.

 

Today we're going to talk about Declaration Session #2: Beyond Fear .

 

We've been talking about many things in certified high performance coaching. This is the third of four series of lessons and coaching that I do throughout a whole year.

 

And here's the truth: We all have our own fears that can hold us down—fears that we have to face.

 

Today's session is about five questions. We're going to take about five to seven minutes. Pull out your journal.

 

This is to help you see what the ideal future would look like for yourself. And my goal for you is to face and better manage your fears about pursuing your goals as boldly as you're capable of doing.

 

High Performance Is About Being Proactive

This is all about being proactive. High performance coaching is about having meaningful discussions about:

  • Your health
  • Your relationships
  • Your career
 

And consistently going above norms while maintaining positive relationships and positive health in the process.

 

We don't want to sacrifice any of this.

 

So let's do some good work here. Go through these five questions, and then we'll wrap it up. I know you can get a lot out of this if you'll just apply yourself.

 

Five Questions About Fear

1. Within your last year, have there been any fears you've overcome or better managed?

What were they? How did you do that?

 

Write that out. How did you overcome or manage those fears?

 

Some fears can be managed through:

  • Consistently moving your body
  • Breathwork
  • And many other techniques
 

But those are just a few.

 

2. Are there any fears keeping you from being your authentic self?

What are those fears? Identify them.

 

3. What's worth overcoming those fears?

Who or what is worth overcoming the fears that you have?

 

Who matters enough? What matters enough?

 

4. The next time you sense fear, how could you handle it better?

Maybe you need to have an "If this happens, then I will..." statement and commit to doing that.

 

5. If you learned to be more comfortable with fear, what's the boldest thing you would do in the next five years?

Think big. What would you do if fear wasn't holding you back?

 

My Story: Moving Through Fear

Let me share a personal story with you.

 

I graduated from high school and went to Illinois State, then to Palmer College of Chiropractic.

 

When I was getting ready to graduate, I had an opportunity to be an associate doctor in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

 

But then another opportunity arose: I could buy an existing practice in Elizabethton, Tennessee .

 

I was fearful of taking that step. Moving away. Not having anyone there. And my mother was battling colon cancer at the time.

 

But I took the chance.

 

And if I wouldn't have taken that chance, other doors wouldn't have opened for me.

 

Sometimes we've got to take that chance and put our courage on and move through the fear—even though it's still there .

 

That's what this is all about.
