Declaration Session #1: PERSONAL FREEDOM - What Does It Mean to You?

Hello, Dr. Howard Dennis here, your certified High Performance coach.

 

Today we're going to talk about Declaration Session #1 . We've been going through my certified high performance coaching material, and we're now in the Declaration Sessions.

 

James Clear sent me a quote from William Shakespeare the other day that really stuck with me:

 

"Our doubts are traitors and make us lose the good we oft might win by fearing to attempt."

 

So today is all about freedom —thinking about it in a unique way, in a forward way, in a proactive way.

 

This is going to take about seven minutes. We're going to go over seven to eight questions. Pull out your journal and let's do some work on ourselves.

 

Our Goals Today

  1. Identify what makes you feel more free and happy in the present moment
  2. Begin shaping an even more ideal future for you
  3. Help you achieve a sense of freedom
 

Seven Questions About Personal Freedom

1. When you hear the phrase "personal freedom," what comes to mind at this point in your life?

What does that mean to you right now?

 

2. What makes you feel most free and happy in your life right now?

You know, it's crazy, but one thing that really helps my personal freedom is actually going on daily walks with my family .

 

Think about this in different avenues:

  • Your professional life
  • Your personal life
  • Your health
  • Your relationships
  • Your career
  • Your mental attitude
 

A attitude of gratitude is huge for personal freedom.

 

3. Is there anything stopping you from being more free and happy in your life right now?

Is there anything preventing you from having more of that freedom?

 

4. If you could have ultimate freedom in your future—let's say five years from now—what would that look like?

What would ultimate freedom mean to you five years from now?

 

Journal that out. Think about:

  • Your health
  • Your relationships
  • Your career
  • Your attitude
  • Your emotions
 

Visualize that and journal it out.

 

5. What actions could you take to set you up for more freedom this next year?

And what about the next five years?

 

Those are two different things:

  • This coming year (the year you're in right now)
  • The next five years
 

What would that look like? What actions could you take?

 

6. Are your actions ambitious enough for yourself?

I want to ask you this: Are the actions you just wrote down ambitious enough?

 

7. Is there anything else you can do to add to this?

Push yourself. Think bigger.

 

My Personal Reflections on Freedom

This year, I'm thinking about improving in:

  • My health
  • My relationships
  • My career
  • My demeanor
  • My attitude as a team leader
 

One thing that excites me is having the people around me —that circle of friends, team, and family that we're building. People who love us. Building trust. Getting called out when we're trying to make good excuses for why we're not doing something.

 

That's what real freedom looks like—being surrounded by people who challenge you to be better.

 

What's Stopping You?
