The Reality of Change

We just had a big snowstorm come through that shut down my chiropractic practice for a day. Sometimes change is brought upon us—weather, unexpected events, life circumstances. And when that happens, we can allow it to derail our great habits.

 

But here's what separates high performers from everyone else: We don't wait for change to happen TO us. We make it happen.

 

We're talking about being proactive in our lives and making change happen in a purposeful way. For instance, if you work out at home, you don't let the weather dictate whether you exercise or not. You're proactive when faced with challenges.

 

Rate Yourself on Change

I want you to rate yourself on a scale of 1-10 based on how much you agree with this statement:

 

"I try new things often and I'm always trying to improve many areas of my life. I don't fear change. I've made significant progress lately. I know what needs to change in my life and I'm ready to do it."

 

After you rate yourself, ask:

  • Why do I agree (or not agree) with this statement?
  • How can I make that number higher?
 

Seven Powerful Questions About Change

Grab your journal and work through these questions:

 

1. What changes are you most proud of in your life?

Think deeply. What have you accomplished that required real transformation? What else? Keep digging.

 

2. What change has been the hardest?

What was the most difficult change you've ever made?

 

3. How did you manage it?

What did that hard change teach you? How did you push through?

 

4. What change are you resisting right now?

You know you need to change it. That part of you. But you haven't yet. What is it?

 

5. What would the person closest to you say you need to change?

Be honest. What would they say?

 

6. What do you KNOW you need to change in your life?

Deep down, you already know. What is it?

 

7. If you could make one big, bold change right now, what would it be?

Don't hold back. What would transform your life?

 

The Power of Vision

When we're talking about change in high performance, we want to be proactive in everything . We don't wait for something to happen to us. We make it happen now.

 

But here's what's huge: You need to VISION this change.

 

When you vision what the best version of you looks like, everything becomes clearer.

 

Maybe you own a practice. What does that best version look like? Can you hear yourself talking with your patients? Are you vibrant? Are you engaging at a high level?

 

Maybe you're a coach. What does that best coach look like? Can you hear yourself bringing powerful questions to your clients?

 

Maybe you want to be a better mother or father. What does that look like? How do you show up for your children?

 

Maybe it's losing weight and being healthier. What does that look like? What are you putting in your mouth? How are you handling social activities?

 

We're writing this down. We're journaling this. But if we're not keeping the vision of what that looks like, we lose our way.

 

You need to keep a vision of where you're going and what that looks like at its best. Can you see these scenes in your life? This is how successful high performers operate.
